Let’s look at people. There are nudists, vegans, potheads, 80-year-olds, hippies, 80-year-old hippies, people who use Couchsurfing to hook-up, guys who only host girls, girls that only host girls, squatters, homeless travelers, people with no passport or visas, professional musicians, famous artists, and much more on Couchsurfing. Some of those are not attractive sounding, some are great. Here’s some you may specifically have concerns about.
Many people who are possibly socially awkward use Couchsurfing to help socialize, they are at Couchsurfing parties a lot and also host. They are almost always super nice, just sometimes awkward.
Simply because they are nudists does not mean they just want to see you naked. Many do not care if you stay clothed in their home, they just want you to be aware they will not be. Some do prefer you to engage in their ways. I had a male friend who was desperate for a place to stay and was accepted by two nudist men who were together. I found it hilariously entertaining, but he said they were great. Are there people who try to see you naked? Yes, sometimes. Just talk and if you’re comfortable with how they talk about it than go for it.
Guys who only accept girls
If there is no explicit explanation as to why they only accept girls, they are trying to hook-up with every girl they host. Couchsurfing is not about sex (next section talks about this), but to each his own. I avoid messaging any guy who only has references from women as it’s pretty obvious where his priorities lie. If you’re a girl and this appeals to you, then why not? Just read the references and make sure its what you want.
Girls who only accept girls
These are generally the women who want to make other girls feel safe. I’ve never heard of a bad situation arising from this. Just be aware that these girls are out there if you are girl looking for them.
It’s not a website without vices. But, it’s also not a surprise to meet these people. I’ve hosted people from Eastern European countries who got to the states on a visa that they are now 6 months overdue on and were great people, I’ve been hosted by a 68-year-old woman who seemed like she was 30 and taught me much on Danish culture and cuisine. You can’t be afraid of people for this to work, don’t judge either, accept that these are possibly peculiar people whom you’ve just yet to get used to.
